Drop on quantity of credit cards is caused by Central Bank’s new rule

September 28, Fineko/abc.az. The main cause of decline in the credit card market is the new prudential standards introduced by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.

According to the rule, the limit of a citizen's credit card is set at a maximum of 5-fold the limit of his net income, and his other debts are also taken into account.

At that, applying a 100-percent risk weighting to unused credit lines has forced banks to reduce large limits.

Central Bank's management and financial reports confirm that this step is aimed at preventing excessive debt among the population and ensuring responsible lending.
