September 22, Fineko/abc.az. The price of beef in Azerbaijan has increased once again and reached 19 manats per kg. This corresponds to nearly $11.1 at the current exchange rate.
Against the background of rising prices in the domestic market, it is becoming actual to compare the cost of beef with neighboring countries in the region. Among the factors affecting prices in Azerbaijan are a weak feed base, insufficient domestic production and dependence on imports.
In Georgia, 1 kg of beef costs an average of $8.5–9, or about 14.5–15.5 manats, which is lower than the price level in Azerbaijan.
In Russia, prices depend on the region and the type of meat. The average retail price of beef is $11-14 per kg, or about 18.5–23.5 manats. Thus, according to these indicators, prices are comparable to Azerbaijani ones, and in some cases higher.
In Turkey, where the cost of meat is affected by high inflation and the cost of livestock products, beef is sold at an average of $17-21 per kg, or 29-35 manats. This is one of the highest rates among the countries under consideration.
In Iran, the cost of beef, taking into account exchange rate fluctuations and the specifics of domestic production, is about $7-9 per kg, or 12-15 manats, depending on the exchange rate used. This is one of the lowest rates among the countries under consideration.
Thus, the price of beef in Azerbaijan - 19 manats per kg - is lower than in Turkey, but higher than in Georgia and Iran. In Russia, the cost is approximately at a comparable level.
