Gold declines amid profit-taking, but prepares for first monthly growth in 5 months

11:41 - 31.07.2026

July 31, Fineko/abc.az. Gold prices edged down on Friday due to profit-taking by investors and a minor bounce in the US dollar, yet the precious metal remained on course for an approximate 1.8% gain in July - marking its first monthly increase in five months.

The spot price of gold fell by 0.6% to $4,076.53 per ounce. Nevertheless, gold rose by 0.6% at the end of the week and by about 1.7% at the end of the month. August futures in the U.S. fell by 0.4% to $4,074.20.

Analysts note that the level of $4,000 per ounce has become a strong support for the market. Investor sentiment is also influenced by expectations of the U.S. Federal Reserve decisions: the market estimates the probability of a rate hike in September at 63%. At the same time, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to support the demand for gold as a safe-haven asset.

Among other precious metals, silver fell by 0.8%, platinum by 1.7%, and palladium by 0.8%.
