About 20% of mortgage loans in Azerbaijan given within banks' internal programs

July 24, Fineko/abc.az. To date, in Azerbaijan, 73,400 people have received mortgage loans for totally 5.4 billion manats.

Mortgage & Credit Guarantee Fund’s chief manager Rasim Abdullayev said this at a meeting with journalists.

He added that roughly 80% of mortgage loans were given through the MCGF, and nearly 20% issued through banks' internal mortgage programs.

"According to Central Bank’s statistics, the share of mortgage loans in banks' loan portfolios is 15.2%," MCGF representative said.

In addition, Abdullayev said that since the introduction of MCGF’s guarantee mechanism in 2018, 1,571 guaranteed mortgage loans have been given for approx. 150 million manats.

"Among the recipients of mortgage loans, 33% are citizens aged 18 to 29, 34% are aged 29 to 35, and another 33% are over 35 years old. Thus, 67% of borrowers are young people and young families. Regions account for 23% of the mortgage loans given. Among borrowers, 67% are married and 33% are single. 42% of mortgage loan recipients are engaged in the private sector, while 58% in the public sector. In 2020-2026, the average annual number of citizens who received support through the Fund's instruments exceeded 7,300," he added.
