EU Agrees on 21st Package of Sanctions Against Russia

22:07 - 23.07.2026

July 23, Fineko/abc.az. European Union member states have approved the 21st sanctions package against Russia, targeting the energy, financial, cryptocurrency, and trade sectors.

The new measures add 32 more Russian banks to the transaction ban list and impose restrictions on crypto entities, oil trading platforms, and vessels assisting Russia's shadow fleet. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced a one-year freeze on the oil price cap adjustment mechanism to prevent Moscow from exploiting energy market shocks.

Following delays caused by objections from Greece, a compromise was reached allowing EU shippers to continue transporting Russian LNG to third countries solely under contracts signed prior to February 24, 2022.
