Eurozone Inflation Hits Three-Year High as ECB Rate Hike Expectations Rise

14:42 - 2.10.2026

October 2, Fineko/abc.az. Eurozone inflation accelerated faster than expected in September, reaching a three-year high of 3.8% year-on-year, up from 3.2% in August, according to Eurostat. The resurgence in price pressures was primarily driven by rising oil and natural gas prices amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Inflation exceeded expectations across the Eurozone’s four largest economies, surging to 5% in Spain. Core inflation held steady at 2.5%, while services inflation ticked up to 3.2%.

Although ECB President Christine Lagarde signaled no immediate rush to tighten policy, market participants expect the central bank to deliver at least two more interest rate hikes to anchor inflation expectations.
