June 22, Fineko/abc.az. In the coming weeks, a shareholder agreement is to be signed between Serbian company Elektroprivreda Serbia (EPS) and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) on development, construction and management of a major 500 MW gas-fired combined heat and power plant (CHP) in the city of Niš, Serbia.
ABC.AZ reports that Serbian Minister of Mining & Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said this during a meeting with the mayor of Niš, Dragoslav Pavlović.
During the meeting, the parties generally discussed activities within the project of construction of a gas-fired power plant in Niš.
Handanovic stressed that completion of the power plant is scheduled for 2030: "Work has begun on the preparation and coordination of planning documents. The spatial plan of the Niš city has already been adopted, and this creates the basis for further work on planning documents. At a meeting of all stakeholders involved in the project, we had the opportunity from the designer to receive information about the main works and the schedule of implementation, which will be carried out by the end of 2030. It is planned to complete the construction of the power plant this year. The new facility will increase the reliability of electricity supply, strengthen Serbia's energy stability, and make an additional contribution to improving the provision of thermal energy to Nis residents."
