June 12, Fineko/abc.az. The Indian government has invoked emergency powers and imposed temporary restrictions on the sale of diesel fuel and gasoline at retail gas stations for a period of 90 days due to supply chain disruptions caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
ABC.AZ reports, referring to an official notification from the authorities, that now retail gas stations cannot dispense more than 200 liters of diesel fuel per day in one hand or per vehicle. The resale of fuel purchased at the gas station is strictly prohibited.
The main reason for the harsh measures was the price gap: to protect the population, state-owned companies subsidized the retail price of diesel ($1.14 per liter), while the industrial market price jumped to $1.61. Large commercial consumers and transport companies began to massively purchase fuel at conventional gas stations, which led to local shortages and public sector losses of around $60 million per day. According to the new decree, all industrial and wholesale buyers are completely deprived of the right to refuel at retail stations and are required to purchase fuel through their own departmental channels.
