Nearly 557 million tons of oil transported via BTC pipeline

June 4, Fineko/abc.az. To date, close to 557 million tons of Azerbaijani oil have been transported through main export oil pipeline Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC).

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan that exactly 20 years ago - on June 4, 2006 - the first tanker with export oil delivered via the BTC pipeline set off.

The pipeline transports oil from the Azeri–Chirag–Guneshli (ACG) oilfields located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as condensate from Shah Deniz field.

The BTC oil pipeline originates at the Sangachal Terminal and passes through the territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey to the Ceyhan marine terminal on the Turkish coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

Filling of the pipeline with oil began on May 10, 2005, and the first oil reached the Ceyhan terminal on May 28, 2006.
