April 16, Fineko/abc.az. The banking sector demonstrated strong profit dynamics in Azerbaijan for the 1st quarter of 2026, against the background of an increase in lending activity and an increase in interest margins, while the bulk of profitability was concentrated in systemically important banks.

ABC.AZ informs that for Q1 of 2026 the net profit of the sector totaled 373 million manats. This figure is 120 million manats, or 48% more compared to 253 million manats for Q1 of 2025.

The net profit of 309 million manats (or 83% of the overall volume) accounted for Top 5 of banks.

According to preliminary estimates, growth of net profit is conditioned mainly with the fact that, amid the expansion of the loan portfolio, interest income grew faster than interest expenses. As a result, the effect of the credit and deposit margin supported the increase in net interest income.
