February 5, Fineko/abc.az. The government of Bhutan has transferred 284.8 bitcoins (more than $22 million) to the deposit address of market maker QCP Capital. This is stated in the data of Arkham platform.

ABC.AZ reports that the Kingdom of Bhutan ranks 3rd among national governments on the number of countries storing bitcoins.

The country has been mining cryptocurrencies since 2020, using excess electricity generated from hydroelectric power plants. Unlike the U.S. and some other countries, Bhutan did not confiscate or receive bitcoins from the market - the entire volume was obtained only through mining. Although the transfers do not mean an automatic sale, Bhutan has previously periodically confirmed that it is selling some of its reserves.

July 2025 was the last time when such activity was recorded. The price of bitcoin rose above $120,000 then. Previously, such a step was taken at the end of 2024, when bitcoin first reached the mark of $100,000.

Country's cryptocurrency assets are managed by state-owned company Druk Holding & Investments. According to the latest data, company's wallets are storing 5,700 BTC for approx. $408 million.
