October 20, Fineko/abc.az. Two nuclear reactors, with capacity of 55 MW and 200 MW, are being developed by specialists from the Indian Center for Atomic Research named after Jehangir Baba.
ABC.AZ informs that The Economic Times reported about this, citing a statement by a senior official.
The official said that Indian specialists are creating Bharat small modular reactors or BSMR (Bharat Small Modular Reactors). They should become the main ones in increasing the share of nuclear energy in India.
"These nuclear reactors are very safe and can even be used to power merchant ships," the official said, adding that commercial companies will also be able to use such nuclear power plants.
The publication recalled that the Indian government had previously announced future amendments to the Atomic Energy Act of 1962. The government intends to allow private companies to work in the civil nuclear sector.
