Situation with computers in schools revealed

September 8, Fineko/abc.az. As of 1 October 2024, 4,352 full-time general education schools in Azerbaijan had computers, accounting for 99.9% of all schools.

Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of schools with computers decreased by 42, ABC.AZ reports, citing the State Statistics Committee.

Of these schools, 3,095 are located in villages (49 fewer than the previous year) and 1,257 in cities (7 more), including 387 in Baku (10 more).

Last year, schools had 135,984 computers (an increase of 22,095 or 19.4%), including 97,380 in city schools (up 22,253).

Across the country, 56.1% of computers in schools are connected to the internet (down 2.3 percentage points), including 59.3% in city schools (down 4.2 points) and 47.9% in rural schools (down 0.6 points). The highest connectivity rate was recorded in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, where 90.9% of computers (up 0.4 points) had internet access. The lowest rate (36.4%) was noted in the East Zangezur economic region.

On average, there were 12 students per computer nationwide (2 fewer than the previous year).

Overall, 932,599 students (up 13,255) used the internet. The share of students with internet access reached 58.1% (up 1 percentage point) of all students nationwide. Nakhchivan led in this indicator as well, with 99.9% of students (up 0.4 points) using the internet last year. The lowest share (27.9%) was recorded in the East Zangazur economic region.
