Voluntary life insurance loss ratio reached 63% last month

August 29, Fineko/abc.az. As of July 2025, the loss ratio in the voluntary life insurance sector in Azerbaijan stood at 63%. This figure represents the ratio of insurance payouts to premium collections and is considered high compared to global standards.

According to ABC.AZ, citing statistical data from the Central Bank, in the corresponding period of 2024 the loss ratio was 59%, reflecting a 4 percentage point increase year-on-year.

From January to July 2025, insurance premiums amounted to 472.2 million manats, while payouts reached 372.7 million manats.

In life insurance, which makes up the bulk of the sector, 447.62 million manats were collected and 369.57 million manats were paid out.

Overall, over the past nine years, the July loss ratio has ranged from 32% to 63%, indicating volatility in the sector.
