July 8, Fineko/abc.az. Members of the European Parliament (EP) supported Bulgaria's accession to the euro area on January 1, 2026.

ABC.AZ informs thst the vote was held at the plenary session of the EP in Strasbourg, broadcast on the parliament's website.

As Eva Majdel, a Bulgarian MP from the European People's Party (EPP), the EP's rapporteur on Bulgaria's accession to the euro area, noted, "Bulgaria is ready to join the monetary union".

At the same time, a number of deputies demanded that the vote be postponed, arguing that Maydel belongs to the same political camp as the Bulgarian government. This, according to the parliamentarians, calls into question the impartiality of her report.

"Parliament should check and not support all documents without discussion," said Rada Laikova, a Bulgarian MP from the right-wing Europe of Sovereign Nations coalition. The EP rejected this initiative.
