Pakistan to create strategic bitcoin reserve

May 29, Fineko/abc.az. The government of Pakistan plans to create a strategic bitcoin reserve and support bitcoin mining.

ABC.AZ reports that the Minister of Blockchain & Cryptocurrencies of the state, Bilal Bin Saqib, made the relevant statement at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas.

Bin Saqib stated that Pakistan's plans to create a strategic bitcoin reserve were inspired by the plan of the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to create a similar reserve in the U.S., which - at least initially - will be filled with assets of the U.S. government seized in criminal and civil cases, the total amount of which is estimated at approx. 200,000 bitcoins.

He added that the Pakistani government is "very closely" following the progress of stable coin legislation in the U.S.

Bin Saqib noted that, like bitcoins destined for the U.S. strategic reserve, the Pakistani government will not sell its bitcoins.

"This wallet, the national bitcoin wallet, is not intended for speculation or hype. We will keep these bitcoins and never, ever sell them," Bin Saqib said.

In addition to creating a strategic reserve, Bin Saqib announced that the government of Pakistan has reserved 2,000 megawatts of electricity for bitcoin mining and AI data centers.

"We want to invite all miners to come to Pakistan, and all infrastructure players to build with us," Bin Saqib said.
