April 2, Fineko/abc.az. The global lemon market is going through a phase of intense pressure, characterized by a drop in consumption and a 6% reduction in global production.
ABC.AZ informs that this is stated in the latest report published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
This situation also has significant implications in Italy, especially in Sicily, country's main manufacturing region. Salvatore Scarcella, President of Op Cai, said: "Since February, the market situation has changed due to product shortages in Spain following frosts in the Alicante and Murcia regions. These events led to the loss of about 150,000 tons of lemons, causing a domino effect across Europe."
Unstable weather conditions in Italy caused significant damage to production, increasing crop losses.
"All companies face a high proportion of products that are not suitable for marketing, and this affects revenue," explained Antonio Lo Conte, head of management control at Op Cai cooperative.
