March 5, Fineko/abc.az. In February 2025, DARPA completed the construction of the Defiant, a 54-m-long, 240-ton vessel.

ABC.AZ reports that in the near future it will undergo a complex of tests in port conditions and on the high seas.

NOMARS initiative offers a new approach to ship design: unmanned platforms are created from scratch, without taking into account the requirements for the crew. This opens up new possibilities: compact size, reduced costs, increased reliability in long-term missions, improved hydrodynamics and resistance to bad weather and threats. The stealth of these ships reduces the risk of detection and makes them less vulnerable.

The program aims to create a reliable fleet of unmanned surface ships (USVs) that can be mass-produced. Such vehicles will be more economical compared to traditional crewed vessels.
