Kazakh banks increased issuance of Visa and MasterCard cards in January

March 3, Fineko/abc.az. In January 2025, the banks in Kazakhstan increased the issue of cards from international payment systems amid news that they would not be able to open cards to non-residents for more than 12 months.

ABC.AZ reports that this is stated in National Bank of Kazakhstan’s statistical data "Payment cards & e-banking services".

In the first month of 2025, the number of issued IPS cards grew by 3.9%, reaching 56.7 million cards. This is the maximum increase since April 2023, when the number of cards for the calendar month from April 1 to May 1 increased by 4%. Local banks showed a similar increase in June 2022, when the number of issued cards rose by 3.6%. The average monthly card issue rate in Kazakhstan in 2024 was 0.8%, and in the period from the beginning of 2023 to February 2025 - 1.1%.
