January 27, Fineko/abc.az. Hungary demands guarantees from the EU and Ukraine in its energy security or before the issue of extending anti-Russian sanctions is resolved, ABC.AZ informs, quoting Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.
The country's representatives made this decision before a ministerial meeting in Brussels on January 27, which will consider extending EU sanctions against Russia for another six months.
Szijjarto noted that Hungary has repeatedly expressed the idea that the sanctions have not achieved their goal. They only caused damage to the Russian economy. At that, Hungary wanted to consult with the U.S. administration on the extension of sanctions.
According to the minister, Ukraine, in turn, is taking steps that harm the energy security of the countries.
"Recently, oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia have been restricted, the Turkish Stream pipeline has been attacked, and natural gas transit through Ukraine to Central Europe has been stopped," he said.
Szijjarto also stressed that in the future, sanctions against Russia and Ukraine's actions cannot go hand in hand.
