January 13, Fineko/abc.az. A sharp rise in egg prices has been observed in the U.S. This marked the beginning of the year for consumers in a bad way.
ABC.AZ informs that according to U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest report, egg production in the U.S. decreased by 4% year-on-year, while laying hens by 3%. As a result, egg prices reached their highest level since January 2023.
Production is expected to fall until egg producers regain their capacity. Consumers can expect "higher than usual egg prices", Wells Fargo analyst Kevin Bergquist warns.
On average, a dozen of large category A eggs cost $3.65 last November. Back in October, the price was $3.37, and at the beginning of 2024 - $2.52.
