Turkish economists: Discount rate reduction by 150 bp is possible

December 23, Fineko/abc.az. Turkish economists don’t rule out that CBA’s discount rate may be lowered in December for the first time in the last eight months.

ABC.AZ informs that according to newspaper Türkiye, there are such expectations for the results of the last meeting of the CBA Monetary Policy Committee to be held on December 26.

The rate, according to the average forecasts of local economists, can be reduced by 150 basis points, that is, from 50% to 48.5%. Discount rate remained at the current level since May. The Central Bank went to its sharp increase

to reduce the rate of inflation. In the foreign exchange market, the dollar continues to strengthen against the lira. On

Monday, the US currency started trading at 35.19 lira. In general, the strengthening of the dollar continues, only since mid-October it has added 1 lira to the value.
