November 18, Fineko/abc.az. The commissioning of Türkiye’s first Akkuyu nuclear power plant will reduce emissions into the atmosphere by about 35 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.

ABC.AZ reports, quoting Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, when he presented Energy Ministry’s budget for 2025 in the Turkish parliament.

"With the full commissioning of Akkuyu NPP, it will be able to cover 10% of Türkiye's electricity needs. It will also reduce imports of natural gas per year by $7 billion and reduce emissions of about 35 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere," the minister said.

Bayraktar also announced plans by the Turkish authorities to invest over $20 billion in energy-efficient production by 2030, which will save $46 billion over 15 years.
