October 29, Fineko/abc.az. The Argentine Mint has stopped issuing banknotes in denominations of 1,000 and 2,000 pesos due to a unilateral decision by the country's Central Bank (BCRA).
ABC.AZ reports that the republic intends to import banknotes from China.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Board of Directors. The reason was high costs and non-compliance with deadlines.
The latest tender organized by BCRA, the article says, showed that there are many companies in the world with free capacities for the production of banknotes. The Chinese State Printing House won the tender, and firms from Brazil, the USA, France and England also participated in the competition. All of them are able to produce banknotes for Argentina cheaper than its own state printing house.
New 10,000-peso banknotes have already arrived in Buenos Aires from China in June. The printing house, which produces yuans, also won a tender for the supply of a large batch of 20,000 peso banknotes in December 2024.
