September 24, Fineko/abc.az. Grain production in Azerbaijan increased almost 2.4-fold between 1991 and 2023.

ABC.AZ reports, quoting Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov as saying this at conference "Sustainable Food Safety against Climate Change" in Baku.

"In 1991, 1.346 million tons of grain crops were produced in Azerbaijan, including 889,400 tons of wheat. In 2023, grain production reached 3.248 million tons (2.4-fold more), including 1.8 million tons of wheat (2.1-fold more)," Mammadov said.

The minister recalled that during the Soviet period, Azerbaijan provided about 30% of domestic demand for wheat through its own production, and today this figure has reached almost 58%.

"The potential formed in recent years in the field of agriculture, in particular, through public-private partnership and the use of modern technologies, creation of large grain farms, as well as liberation of our lands have created new opportunities for further increasing country's self-sufficiency in wheat," Mammadov said.
