August 6, Fineko/abc.az. Dredging is underway in the waters of Kuryk port to ensure the safety of navigation. These works are part of all-round measures taken within the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and will provide service to growing needs for cargo transportation on this route.

The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan informs that specialized dredging equipment of large European company Jan de Nul has been involved in the process. An EPC contract has been signed with the company: from design to turnkey dredging.

Dredging will create conditions for further expansion of terminal capacities.

To date, capacity of Kuryk port is 6 million tons (railway terminal – 4 million tons, auto terminal – 2 million tons). The port also has the possibility of simultaneous storage of 250 trucks.
Similar work will also be carried out in the port of Aktau.
According to the Ministry, cargo transportation by TITR grew by 62% in 7 months and reached 2.5 million tons (for the same period in 2023 – 1.6 million tons).
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, connects China and European countries through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye.
