January 23, Fineko/abc.az. The number of payment cards in circulation through the systems of Azerbaijani banks and Azerpocht LLC increased by 360,000 cards at the end of December 2023 compared with the previous month and reached 16.925 million cards.

Compared with the same term of 2022, this figure grew by 24.2%, ABC.AZ with reference to the Central Bank.

The growth of payment cards was 24.6% on debit cards and 21.5% on credit cards. The number of salary cards increased by 122,000, credit cards - by 393,000, and other cards - by 2.7 million against the relevant term of 2022.

The growth of payment cards had positive impact on volume of non-cash payments. Thus, during the month, the non-cash transactions within the country increased 1.9-fold versus the same term of 2022. In December 2023, the non-cash payments through cards within the country amounted to 5.798 bn manats. Of the non-cash payments, 4.8 bn manats accounted for e-commerce. Of the remaining amount, transactions for 987 million manats were made through POS-terminals, and and for 9 million manats through self-service terminals. Since the beginning of the year, the non-cash domestic transactions by payment cards made up 55.6% of domestic card transactions.
