Azerbaijan's purchases of food from abroad decreased

January 22, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan lowered food purchases from abroad by $203 million in 2023.

ABC.AZ reports that according to the State Customs Committee, food for $2.16 bn was purchased from abroad last year ($203 million, or 8.6% less than in 2022).

For some goods, decrease in imports reaches 30-40%. In a number of products, on the contrary, imports increased even more.

Thus, wheat imports declined the most in 2023 - only $304 million of wheat was imported into the country from abroad in 2023, compared with $436 million in 2022, resulting in savings of $133 million.

The 2nd product whose imports decreased is oils and fats of vegetable and animal origin – in 2023, the country imported this product for $184 million. And in 2022, this figure reached $297 million - savings of $114 million, or 38%.
