April 19, Fineko/abc.az. The exemption of tropical fruits from customs duty of 15% has its positive aspects, ABC.AZ reports, quoting economist Eldaniz Amirov.

He noted that because of inflation, population’s purchasing power is not at such a high level.

Therefore, reducing the customs duty on these fruits by 15% will ensure the availability of the product.

Commenting on the pros and cons of the decision, the expert noted that there are some minor nuances that can be regarded as cons:

"For example, one of them is that local entrepreneurs are more likely to lose in competition compared to a compromise situation. But it should be borne in mind that the cultivation of tropical fruits in Azerbaijan is not so widespread. Therefore, I don't think there will be any serious damage."
