April 18, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has published a number of measures proposed by the Joe Biden administration to combat climate change and switch to eco-friendly modes of transport as soon as possible.
ABC.AZ reports that these measures, in fact, force manufacturers to switch to production of electric vehicles. At that, speech is not only about private, but also about commercial transport.
The proposed measures promise minus 10 bn tons of CO2 emissions, which is more than twice the total amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. in 2022, thousands of dollars in maintenance savings and a reduction in the country's dependence on oil imports by about 20 bn barrels. The proposed package of measures includes new requirements for motor transport in the country.
Since Joe Biden became president of the U.S., the number of electric cars on the country's roads has tripled, and their model range has become twice as rich.
The number of charging stations for electric vehicles is also growing rapidly - there are already about 130,000 of them, and since 2020 this number has increased by 40%.
The U.S. authorities intend to stimulate the mass transition to electric transport mainly through stricter requirements for manufacturers. Speech is about gradual reduction of the permissible threshold of CO2 emissions for both private passenger cars and commercial vehicles - from vans used by delivery services to school buses and heavy trucks. Manufacturers will be able to fulfill these requirements only by switching to the production of exclusively electric vehicles.
