December 14, Fineko/abc.az. "Currently, the private sector participates in formation of 85% of Azerbaijan's GDP, which is quite a large figure," ABC.AZ quotes MP Tair Mirkishili.

He continued: "Considering that Azerbaijan is a country rich in oil and gas, oil & gas is an economic sphere owned by the state, I think that growth of private sector to 85% was the result of the support of entrepreneurship in Azerbaijan, as well as the opportunities created."

Mirkishili noted that currently there are 1.168 million entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan. More than 250,000 of them are women:

"Unfortunately, there are no women entrepreneurs among the large entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan. About 8% of medium-sized entrepreneurs, about 16% of small business owners and 25% of micro-entrepreneurs are women. Today, 50 entrepreneurs applying for jobs in the territories liberated from occupation are women."
