April 4, Fineko/abc.az. The liberated territories have great potential for the development of the agricultural sector and will play an important role in ensuring the food security of Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ reports that this was stated by Tair Rzayev, the chairman of the Parliamentary Agrarian Policy Committee.

He added that these territories have historically been leaders in the production of high-quality products of grain growing, cotton growing, animal husbandry, tobacco growing and viticulture.

"Some of the occupation-liberated lands have been cleared of mines and are being prepared for sowing. It is profitable to grow cotton, grapes, sugar beet, corn in the Agdam and Fizuli districts, as the lands there are very fertile.

Mountainous areas, i.e. Kalbajar, Lachin and Gubadli, have historically been considered animal husbandry zones. At that, there are conditions for the development of fish farming in the occupation-liberated territories. On the other hand, vegetables, melons and fodder crops can be grown in these areas," Rzayev said.

MP says that ensuring food safety is one of the main tasks Azerbaijan faces.

"The development of grain farming in the liberated territories is on the agenda. In addition, sugar beet can be planted on these lands and get a good harvest," Rzayev added.
