March 30, Fineko/abc.az. "Work is underway to increase exports of agricultural products from Azerbaijan to Arab countries," executive director of the Azerbaijan-Arab Countries Cooperation Association Yalchin Aliyev stated.
He says that meetings with wholesale buyers from Arab countries were held for this purpose: "We have a project to create a wholesale center in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, which are considered the largest markets among Arab countries. The implementation of this project will facilitate the export of Azerbaijani fruits and vegetables to Arab countries.”
Aliyev noted that although Azerbaijani products are of good quality, they are little known in foreign markets, including in the markets of Arab countries. Therefore, the volume of exports is less than the existing potential: "The markets of Arab countries are more competitive. For example, tomatoes, which we sell mainly to Russia, do not have a high selling price in Arab countries. Therefore, our producers did not want to export tomatoes to Arab countries. But if we had once supplied cheap products to these markets, we would not have faced today's problems. We are used to the Russian market. Currently, the products of Pakistan, India, and Turkey occupy the main place in the markets of Arab countries. We have also entered these markets, but expanding exports is not an easy task. One of the main problems for Azerbaijani exporters is logistics. We wanted the state to subsidize logistics. If the state pays a certain part of the logistics costs of exporters, it will help exporters.”
