March 14, Fineko/abc.az. The Russian government does not have access to the $300 bn reserve.
ABC.AZ reports that Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told state TV channel Russia-1 about his country's reserves frozen by the U.S. and the EU.
"This is about half of these reserves that we had. We have a total amount of reserves of about $640 bn, about $300 bn of reserves are now in a state in which we cannot use them," Siluanov said.
He added that part of Russia's gold and foreign exchange reserves is in yuans, and Western countries are seeking from China to impose similar restrictions on access to the currency. Pressure is also being exerted in an attempt to restrict Russia's trade with China, Siluanov emphasized.
On 10 March, Siluanov stated that if his country could not reach reserves again, it would repay the external debt in rubles.
