Western Union to halt transfers within Russia

February 7, Fineko/abc.az. Western Union will suspend conducting operations in Russia from 1 April 2022, the Russian press informs with reference to the company's letter to partner banks.

The authenticity of the information was confirmed by a source in the payment market. A Western Union representative also confirmed this information.

The letter says that this decision was made because of low demand for domestic transfers in the market. At that, cross-border transfers will be carried out as usual.

"The company focuses on the development of the traditionally popular international money transfer service," the company's rep stated.

It will be impossible to send a transfer inside Russia via Western Union on March 31, and on April 1, the opportunity to receive a payment or refund will disappear, follows from the letter. Those senders who made the transfer before March 31, but it was not received by the addressee, will be able to return the money from April 1 at the offices of the Russian Post. In addition, from March 24, the limit of internal transfers will be reduced to 5,000 rubles.
