Commerzbank Warns Turkish CBRT Over Repeated Inflation Forecast Hikes

August 27, Fineko/abc.az. German banking giant Commerzbank has criticized the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) over its repeated upward revisions of inflation forecasts, stating that the central bank is "following reality from behind" rather than anchoring market expectations.

Commerzbank economist Tatha Ghose noted that continuous upward adjustments erode the credibility and predictability of monetary policy. He warned that while private sector analysts update their forecasts dynamically, CBRT’s delayed revisions during official report releases undermine its role as a market anchor. On August 13, CBRT raised its year-end inflation forecast from 26% to 28%.
