Over 20,000 Green Card contracts issued in Azerbaijan for past half of 2026

July 23, Fineko/abc.az. In the 1st half of 2026, 20,379 contracts were concluded in Azerbaijan within international insurance system Green Card, and the total amount of insurance premiums reached 3,136,239 manats.

According to the Compulsory Insurance Bureau, 13,402 contracts were issued for vehicles registered in Azerbaijan, with insurance premium of 752,906 manats. 6,977 Green Card contracts were issued for vehicles registered in Georgia and Kazakhstan, with insurance premium of 2,383,333 manats.

In the 1st quarter, 165 road accidents were recorded abroad (in Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and other countries) due to the fault of Azerbaijani Green Card holders, and insurance payments were made for 716,164 manats. The average payment sum was 4,340 manats.

In addition, insurance payments were made abroad for 435,182 manats on 69 cases involving vehicles registered in Georgia and Kazakhstan. On average, there were 6,307 manats per case.

The Green Card system is an international mechanism for insuring the civil liability of drivers traveling abroad, based on mutual guarantees from national bureaus. It provides compensation for damages caused by accidents involving foreign vehicles, in accordance with the laws of the country where the accident occurred.

The Azerbaijan Compulsory Insurance Bureau has been a member of the Council of International Bureaus since 2016 and represents the country in the Green Card system. As of January 1, 2023, Azerbaijani Green Cards are also available for vehicles registered in Georgia and Kazakhstan.
