July 21, Fineko/abc.az. Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, speaking at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, noted that the security and economic interests of both nations have been significantly impacted by global conflicts, reiterating full support for negotiated settlements.

Congratulating President Aliyev on the initialing of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Chancellor highlighted this historic agreement as a crucial milestone for lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

During the meeting, the leaders signed a Joint Declaration and agreed to establish the Azerbaijan-Germany Business Council.

Merz also stressed that supplies of Azerbaijani oil and gas via the South Caucasus Corridor carry strategic importance amid the ongoing Middle East crisis.
