21 years since launch of BTC: 556 million tons of Azerbaijani oil pumped via pipeline

May 25, Fineko/abc.az. Today is the 21st anniversary of the commissioning of the Azerbaijani section of main export oil pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC). Since its launch, nearly 556 million tons of Azerbaijani oil have been transported through the pipeline.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy that currently the BTC pipeline mainly transports oil from field block Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) and condensate from Shah Deniz field.

According to the State Statistics Committee, for Jan-Apr 2026, BTC made up 77.0% of all transportation through the country's main oil pipelines. In the first 4 months of this year, the BTC pumping amounted to 8.389 million tons (925,200 tons, or 9.9% less versus Jan-Apr 2025 - 9.314 million tons).

In the structure of supplies for Jan-Apr 2026, 82.4% (6.914 million tons) was oil produced in Azerbaijan and 17.6% (1.475 million tons) - transit oil coming from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
