U.S. allocates $2.9 billion for antimony mining to reduce dependence on China, Russia and Tajikistan

May 25, Fineko/abc.az. The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) has approved a $2.9 billion loan to Perpetua Resources for the Stibnite Gold project in Idaho.

ABC.AZ reports that despite the name of the project, gold is not the most interesting product for the U.S. authorities here. The main purpose of the financing is the extraction of antimony (antimony), which is critically needed for defense purposes, the semiconductor industry and the renewable energy sector.

Today, China, Russia and Tajikistan control more than 90% of the world's antimony production. In this regard, this loan is called the largest in the framework of EXIM's initiative "Make More in America" and the agency's fourth largest loan in its entire history. Obviously, the financing decision follows the same strategic logic as investments in MP Materials for the extraction of rare earth metals aimed at ensuring the US commodity security.

Analysts predict that the global antimony market will increase from $2.15 billion in 2025 to $3.17 billion by 2035.
