Indonesia plans large-scale imports of Russian oil, but deal is under question

17:25 - 22.05.2026

May 22, Fineko/abc.az. Indonesia is developing a scheme to import up to 150 million barrels of Russian oil in 2026, but the market considers this goal overly ambitious. So far, only one batch of raw materials has been delivered.

ABC.AZ reports that to fulfill the plan, supplies of nearly 700,000 b/d will be required, which is comparable to Russia's major export destinations, while redirecting such volumes is complicated by sanctions, logistics and shortage of tankers.

The Indonesian authorities and state-owned company Pertamina say that the transaction mechanism is still being worked out, and final decisions will depend on financial and regulatory conditions.
