September 9, Fineko/abc.az. According to data from the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Treasury Department, and Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the US public debt-to-GDP ratio has reached historic highs, touching the 100% threshold for the first time since World War II.
After dropping below 25% in the mid-1970s, the ratio accelerated following the 2008 global financial crisis and the expansionary fiscal responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sustained rise in national debt alongside elevated long-term borrowing costs continues to escalate US debt servicing expenses, posing a primary pressure point for global capital markets and Treasury yields.
