Nissan to cut 900 jobs and consolidate production in Europe

May 6, Fineko/abc.az. Nissan announced a new restructuring program, under which it will reduce nearly 900 office staff in Europe and consolidate production lines at the Sunderland plant.

ABC.AZ reports that the company will maintain production of Leaf, Juke and Qashqai cars, but optimize production to increase efficiency. The cuts will not affect manufacturing staff in the UK, which employs nearly 6,000 people.

The restructuring is linked to slowing demand for electric vehicles in Europe, falling sales in China and rising costs in key markets. The company is also already conducting global staff reductions amid pressure on profits and business restructuring.

Nissan said the measures are aimed at creating a more flexible and resilient company that can adapt faster to market changes, including possible partnerships with other automakers.
