Russia offers sanctioned LNG for South Asia with discount of 40%

April 9, Fineko/abc.az. Russia proposed to South Asian countries its LNG from sanctioned facilities with discount of 40% from spot prices and is ready to provide documents, creating the appearance of supplies from Oman or Nigeria, ABC.AZ informs, referring to Bloomberg.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on the world's largest liquefied natural gas export plant in Qatar have reduced about a fifth of global supplies, disrupting the gas market and raising prices.

Shipments from Qatar have stopped, forcing customers in Bangladesh and India to look for more expensive alternatives, the agency writes.

Despite the active expansion of exports from Arctic LNG 2 and Portovaya, most buyers are afraid of US sanctions; so far, China remains the only major importer of sanctioned LNG. Expanding supplies to other countries would help Russia diversify its customer base.
