April 3, Fineko/abc.az. Iraq, the second largest oil producer in OPEC, started supplying fuel oil to Syria overland due to the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
ABC.AZ reports that the volumes are not disclosed, but they are expected to grow to replenish the budget and support the economy.
Previously, Iraq produced around 4.35 million b/d, exporting 3.4 million b/d, but the war and attacks on infrastructure, including the Majnun and Rumaila fields, sharply reduced the figures. On March 12, country's oil ports were suspended after attacks on two tankers near Basra.
An alternative to the land route through Syria was the export of oil from the Kirkuk fields to the Turkish port of Ceyhan through a pipeline. The pumping volume is nearly 250,000 b/d with plans to increase.
