March 31, Fineko/abc.az. David Crane, a leading American investor in the field of clean energy, warned of the risk of excessive construction of energy infrastructure amid the boom in artificial intelligence, ABC.AZ informs, referring to the Financial Times.

The head of Generate Capital warned that reserving energy capacity by data centers could lead to the construction of unnecessary power plants and additional costs for energy companies. He suggested obliging data centers to cover these costs, noting that over time, an excess of electricity is possible, despite statements about growing demand.

According to estimates by consulting company BloombergNEF, the demand for electricity for data centers in the U.S. will grow from 34.7 GW in 2024 up to 106 GW by 2035. NextEra Energy, the largest US energy company, announced plans to build at least 15 GW of new capacity for data centers in the next nine years, the newspaper recalls.
