March 31, Fineko/abc.az. Black Sea Petroleum (BSP), Georgia's first full-fledged oil refinery, has outlined the replacement of Russian oil as a strategic goal.
ABC.AZ reports that company’s co-founder and CEO David Potshveria said this in an interview with BMGTV.
He noted that the company, which started its operations by refining Russian oil, is currently actively working to diversify its raw material base.
"In the future, this will allow BSP to export products to the European Union market. Our goal is to completely replace Russian raw materials. For this, we are already working with Turkmen oil, and at the next stage we plan to use Kazakhstani and other alternative sources,” he stressed.
Potshveria added that diversification of raw materials sources directly affects company's export opportunities. In particular, the EU market is currently closed to Russian oil products, and switching to alternative raw materials removes this restriction.
He emphasized that after the organization of transit of Turkmen oil by rail through Azerbaijan, the company will be able to activate an alternative supply chain: "As soon as we start deliveries via this railway network (through Azerbaijan-ed.), transit of other sources, including Kazakh oil, will be possible automatically."
