February 25, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. has imposed duties on imports of solar panels from Indonesia (86-148%) and Laos (81%) because of foreign subsidies that allowed exporters to sell products cheaper than American manufacturers.
ABC.AZ reports that the aim of the promotion is to ensure fair competition, restore internal capacities and create high-paying jobs.
According to Bloomberg, in the 1st half of 2025, India, Indonesia, and Laos made up 57% of U.S.’ solar module imports. The new tariffs will make the American market almost inaccessible to exports from India, where imports of solar panels totaled $792.6 million in 2024, more than double the figure for 2022.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump’s decree on 10% duties on imports from all countries for 150-day period came into force. In this regard, the meeting of representatives of India and the U.S. to finalize the legal formalization of the interim trade agreement has been postponed to March. Earlier, the parties announced the completion of the first part of the deal, which will now be processed into a legal document for signing.
