February 20, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey-based SOCAR-owned oil refinery STAR has been reducing purchases of Russian crude oil since last year, ABC.AZ informs, referring to Fitch Solutions.

"At the end of 2025, STAR, an asset of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Turkey, began lowering purchases of Russian oil, reflecting a gradual geopolitical departure," FS says.

According to the report, the STAR oil refinery uses 98% Russian oil as a raw material, of which 73% is supplied directly by LUKOIL, which is already under US sanctions.

It is noted that the refinery began to look for alternative supplies, having recently purchased four shipments of oil from Kazakhstan, Iraq and other countries not related to Russia. This indicates a change in previous practice, when Russian oil made up the bulk of STAR's raw materials."
