Shell and BP plan to develop Venezuelan offshore gas fields

January 28, Fineko/abc.az. Shell and British Petroleum (BP) have applied to the U.S. government for permits to develop large offshore gas fields off Venezuela, near Trinidad and Tobago.

ABC.AZ reports that Shell claims the Loran-Manatee field with reserves of around 10 trillion cubic feet of gas, most of which are in Venezuelan waters. BP wants a license for Cocuina-Manakin, part of which relates to mothballed project Plataforma Deltana (1 trillion cubic feet).

Trinidad, the largest LNG exporter in Latin America, needs new sources of gas. It is also planned to launch production at Dragon field in the 4th quarter of 2027 with volume of 350 million cubic feet per day, which will strengthen country's position in the Caribbean energy region.
